If you respect social leaders in medicine, business, academia, sports, entertainment above your pastor, that's a problem.
LOVING, RESPECTING, SUBMITTING TO ONE ANOTHER
God's word is the final authority. This post is not calling for a Roman Catholic, authoritarian type priesthood, though a resistance to Biblical leadership, among Christians, has emerged in recent decades.
However, most people readily recognize the dignity, standing, authority, knowledge and expertise of various leaders in society (such as the list in my post), but those same people see themselves as equally qualified with their pastors. It seems everyone is an expert in Bible, Theology, Christian graces, regardless of their background.
Sadly, the incompetence of the pastor may be real. Those parishioners need to find godly, Biblical, Christ following, Spirit led, ministry gifted men to be their pastor.
This little exercise is designed to help a person evaluate his/her own attitude toward Biblical leadership.
Ask yourself these questions (using the above list as a baseline).
* Would I sooner accept the guidance of a well seasoned expert in another field than I would accept spiritual leadership from my pastor?
* Would I sooner argue with my pastor about spiritual leadership than with the leadership of a well seasoned expert in another field?
* Do I think that my knowledge and expertise in spiritual issues is greater than that of my pastor, and do I think that my knowledge and expertise in other areas is greater than that of seasoned experts in those areas?
* Would I be as quick to disagree, question (inwardly) my pastor's leadership or the leadership of other leaders in their fields of expertise?
* Would I be as quick to disagree, question (publicly) my pastor's leadership or the leadership of other leaders in their fields of expertise?
* Would I allow my pastor the dignity that I would allow a highly respected leader in another field.
Obviously there is no allowance for any pastor to run roughshod over anyone and no pastor should be allowed to teach sinful behavior or damnable doctrine. But neither are pastors to be attacked and held up to ridicule.
A good guide is,
In essentials unity, in non essentials liberty and in all things love.
This is not a license for anyone to err Biblically, but it is a good idea for mutual respect.
The pastor is also expected to afford dignity and respect to the parishioner. It is a two way street. Both the pastor and parishioner are part of the priesthood of believers.
Remember, there is an expected decorum that should be maintained between pastor and parishioner.

Our response to parental authority, as a child & a youth, often indicates our future response to other authority.(submitting, learning, obeying, being perfected)
It is likely, if a child or youth responds with loving submission to parental authority, that child will be able to submit to other authority, while still a child and as an adult.
It is a mistake to think that submission (especially submission that arises from love) is a weakness. Submission to authority is a NORMAL, HEALTHY response. I use "normal" in the sense of man's attitude and nature at creation and also in salvation (especially after entire sanctification). The earlier a person enters into salvation and follows the Christian life of submission to legitimate authority (God, parents, law, teachers, leaders, bosses), the easier it is to submit as an adult, and the more likely it is to have loving, peaceful, respectful relationships with others.
Early submission to authority not only prepares people to serve others and contribute to group harmony but it also prepares them to be good leaders. Being a good follower is important to becoming a good leader.
If a person was not a submissive child or youth, then a greater part of their salvation will be involved in delivering them from self assertion and rebellion. When people do not eagerly accept God's work of changing their attitude as well as their actions, then those people will not flourish in grace.
Learning obedience is a good thing as a young person, since submission to authority is a lifelong reality. Even Jesus learned obedience. Jesus was not rebellious, either by nature or choice, but he willingly yielded to authority as a boy and as a young man. This is manifested in His willingness to suffer in His redemptive work.
If Jesus, Who was perfect and never had a rebellious leaning or action, learned obedience, and if He suffered in His submission to the Father's will, then it is incumbent for us to learn and suffer also.
Hebrews 5:8-9
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Our response to parental authority, as a child & a youth, often indicates our future response to other authority.(submitting, learning, obeying, being perfected)
It is likely, if a child or youth responds with loving submission to parental authority, that child will be able to submit to other authority, while still a child and as an adult.
It is a mistake to think that submission (especially submission that arises from love) is a weakness. Submission to authority is a NORMAL, HEALTHY response. I use "normal" in the sense of man's attitude and nature at creation and also in salvation (especially after entire sanctification). The earlier a person enters into salvation and follows the Christian life of submission to legitimate authority (God, parents, law, teachers, leaders, bosses), the easier it is to submit as an adult, and the more likely it is to have loving, peaceful, respectful relationships with others.
Early submission to authority not only prepares people to serve others and contribute to group harmony but it also prepares them to be good leaders. Being a good follower is important to becoming a good leader.
If a person was not a submissive child or youth, then a greater part of their salvation will be involved in delivering them from self assertion and rebellion. God's perfect team lineup: person/Christ, husband/wife, parent/children, siblings, local church.
Biblical order/goals, one mind.
GO TEAM
God's plan started with family and He has not changed His mind. Teamwork should be part of the family experience. It use to be that the family worked as a team in order to put food on the table and resisting those who would invade and destroy the family.
God did plan on Human Government, but He never planned for Human Government to replace the family. God had a national team through Israel/Judah in the Old Testament, but He switched it to the Church in the New Testament. The Church is not a national grouping, but the Local Church is God's plan for spiritual teamwork for ministry in the local community and around the world.
BUT IT ALWAYS comes back to family. We all came from family, and even those who are single are part of the church family. This includes leadership, whether through husband/father or through pastor. Each member of the family is to have the same mind and focus their energies and abilities toward the same tasks and goals. We are all to be of the same mind.
Nothing is more awesome, beautiful, effective than a single minded, Spirit led, unified body of believers (family, church) working together in the service of God and other people. Sadly, we seldom see this kind of teaming and ministry. Still, it is God's plan and His will.

Our Life & Ministry overlap, but are different. LIFE is our daily walk with God. MINISTRY is our dedicated work for God.
LET ME EXPLAIN...
This is particularly applicable to our CHRISTIAN Life and our CHRISTIAN Ministry. These two aspects of our lives intersect and make up the person that we are. Yet there is a distinction, if not a division, between the two.
The reason for this article is that people often live as if their ministry is fulfilled because they are living their daily lives in subjection to Christ. They trust and follow Christ in their relationship and responsibilities to family, friends and society, but they don't see their opportunities or obligations to serve God, the church and the watching world through a corporate endeavor with their local church. I think it is a lack of vision and a failure to sense the call of God in their lives that leads them to neglect a ministry through their local church. One should be done, but the other should not be neglected.
I am using the word, "LIFE," in the sense of our walk with God in the various relationships and responsibilities of normal daily activities, such as, family, friends, associates, strangers, habits, vocation, recreation, education, social, private. Anything and everything that is part of our basic human journey, manifesting the fruit of the Spirit.
I am using the word, "MINISTRY," in the sense of our specialized work for God in conjunction with other believers (the church), requiring the gifts of the Spirit.
All Christians are expected to live their daily lives in faith and in subjection to the Lordship of Christ, including men, women, children, singles, marrieds, parents, family, friends, foes, citizens. Though we are each different and have different circumstances, we all have the same responsibilities to serve God as His children. However, we each have our own calling to specific service in the body of Christ, and spiritual gifting to accomplish that special service, to which He assigns us.
We are not two people living two different lives, with two different levels of commitment. Our success in one will be related to our success in the other. For instance, no one should neglect family or personal responsibilities in order to serve God through their local church, but neither should anyone neglect his/her corporate ministry because of their home commitments. No one should lose their family because they are trying to win the world, but neither should the world go to hell because we think that our only world is our family or work life.
Service to God, both personally and corporately, is dynamic, changing, living. Life's obligations are more stable, while ministry obligations are more fluid. Everyone should develop their skills in serving God in life and ministry, and sometimes ministry responsibilities will need to be less demanding because of life responsibilities.
As Christians, we should seek to live every day in faithful service to God. Likewise, we should fulfill our ministries.
Two reasonable goals and questions.
First, Lord what would You have me do with my daily journey; and Lord, what have I done as a person, family member, friend, citizen, that will leave a positive influence.
Second, Lord what would You have me do with my ministry; and Lord, what have I done as a servant in your church that will leave a positive influence.

Believe God's Word.
Since God expects us to try (prove, test) the spirits, in order to insure that we are hearing and following His Spirit (1Jn. 4:1), therefore it is reasonable for us to prove translations, versions, to insure that we are reading God's Word.
1 John 4:1-6
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

If you can't or won't be the man you claim to be, don't attack me for being the man I am.
Be honest and Be Biblical.
This is in reference to those who attack my position of Biblical peacemaking and non-violence. I believe the State has the responsibility to punish the wicked and protect the righteous, but Christians are under a higher law. However, people find it easy to ridicule Bible followers (who refuse to swear oaths, make promises or act violently), then those same accusers, who may have taken an oath to protect and to serve or an oath to defend the Constitution, those same accusers that boast in gun rights and self defense, DO NOT LIVE BY THEIR OWN COMMITMENTS. In other words, they are the ones who are the hypocrites.
I am glad they don't go out and kill people or use deadly force against the State. But if they are going to TALK IT, then they should WALK IT, or at least quit demeaning those who actually do take a stand, who actually do reject oppression of a godless State.
I appreciate those who are brave enough and honest enough to stand against evil and to stand for the oppressed. That is God's will for the State, but not for the believer, for the Church.
Jesus is coming back to set up a thousand year kingdom, and things will be run differently then.

Only two people in our area ever invited me to their Bible study (from different churches) but same Bible Study Group.
Weeks ago I was invited by sister June Carolyn Guthrie and recently I was talking to a local man (Pete from Williston) and in our conversation I asked about his relationship with the Lord. As we talked, he invited me to a Bible study led by one of the people in his church. In two different locations, at two different times, with no apparent connection, I was invited to the same Bible Study. I commend these two people for their commitment and for their eagerness to invite me.
Yes ma'am. That is why I mentioned you in the post. I met Pete Friday, at the Spot. As he was telling me about the Bible Study and I told him that you had also invited me. I told him I had been President of the Sub District Methodist Youth in the 60's. I also told him that brother Clint had allowed me to preach at Free Grace. We talked about you for a while.
I am going to get in touch with bro. Rodney and let him know I will stop in to the Study, sometime, just to visit and say hi. I am impressed with y'all being so eager to invite folks. Keep up the good work.

This is 1 of 9 short posts addressing the limitation of human knowledge (understanding, wisdom). I composed these 9 posts because Liberalism, Humanism, Naturalism, Scientism precludes the possibility and fact of the "supernatural," spiritual realm. I start with the most obvious argument and move to my premise that knowledge in the natural realm does not include truths in the spiritual realm. The most intelligent of people are totally ignorant of the spiritual world until they become saved.

7- A man must claim to know ALL ABOUT ALL, ALL THE TIME (unlimited knowledge), in order to deny the existence of God.
8- We are psycho/physical totalities (body, soul, spirit; natural and spiritual). FULL KNOWLEDGE INCLUDES SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE (God).
9- The NATURAL MAN does not understand, comprehend, accept the revelation of God.
TRUE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRES SALVATION.
