01/31/19 CHRISTIAN LIFE AND MINISTRY
Our Life & Ministry overlap, but are different. LIFE is our daily walk with God. MINISTRY is our dedicated work for God.
LET ME EXPLAIN...
This is particularly applicable to our CHRISTIAN Life and our CHRISTIAN Ministry. These two aspects of our lives intersect and make up the person that we are. Yet there is a distinction, if not a division, between the two.
The reason for this article is that people often live as if their ministry is fulfilled because they are living their daily lives in subjection to Christ. They trust and follow Christ in their relationship and responsibilities to family, friends and society, but they don't see their opportunities or obligations to serve God, the church and the watching world through a corporate endeavor with their local church. I think it is a lack of vision and a failure to sense the call of God in their lives that leads them to neglect a ministry through their local church. One should be done, but the other should not be neglected.
I am using the word, "LIFE," in the sense of our walk with God in the various relationships and responsibilities of normal daily activities, such as, family, friends, associates, strangers, habits, vocation, recreation, education, social, private. Anything and everything that is part of our basic human journey, manifesting the fruit of the Spirit.
I am using the word, "MINISTRY," in the sense of our specialized work for God in conjunction with other believers (the church), requiring the gifts of the Spirit.
All Christians are expected to live their daily lives in faith and in subjection to the Lordship of Christ, including men, women, children, singles, marrieds, parents, family, friends, foes, citizens. Though we are each different and have different circumstances, we all have the same responsibilities to serve God as His children. However, we each have our own calling to specific service in the body of Christ, and spiritual gifting to accomplish that special service, to which He assigns us.
We are not two people living two different lives, with two different levels of commitment. Our success in one will be related to our success in the other. For instance, no one should neglect family or personal responsibilities in order to serve God through their local church, but neither should anyone neglect his/her corporate ministry because of their home commitments. No one should lose their family because they are trying to win the world, but neither should the world go to hell because we think that our only world is our family or work life.
Service to God, both personally and corporately, is dynamic, changing, living. Life's obligations are more stable, while ministry obligations are more fluid. Everyone should develop their skills in serving God in life and ministry, and sometimes ministry responsibilities will need to be less demanding because of life responsibilities.
As Christians, we should seek to live every day in faithful service to God. Likewise, we should fulfill our ministries.

The Church (including the local church) has been given the responsibility to keep, maintain, proclaim, safeguard and publish the truth of God (the word of God).
1 Timothy 3:15
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Christians are to know God's truth, His word, His revelation, His plan of salvation, and we are to stand up against the powers of darkness and contend for God's truth.
Jude 1:3
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
We, as believers in, and followers of Christ are given the responsibility to reach the unsaved world with the word of God.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

GOD IS STILL THERE
OK, this is not exciting or exceptional. It is a short, simple video of a HANG GLIDER being pulled aloft. I took this with my phone at the Beaufort Bridge Landing, in July of 2017. My narration is nothing to write home about either. HOWEVER, I noticed something interesting as I watched the video.
Because of the bright day and because it is difficult to see images on a phone screen, I could not see the plane or the hang glider, but I pointed the camera in their direction.
Sometimes our vision is hindered, but by faith we move in the direction we know is right.
In the scheme of Christian living, our faith becomes sight at salvation. We believe Him and He does the unseeable, the unimaginable. By faith we see the hand and work of God.
Then as we walk in His word and in His light we see the hand of God in times of trial, we see the way He is leading and we walk in it. "I believe," becomes, "I know."
But the life of faith and the need for faith continues. Sometimes we do not see, and maybe we do not hear a clear message from God. At those times we set our course by faith in what He has told us, in what He has shown us. I believe Him, I believe His word, I trust His faithfulness and I walk in the way that He has said. I live by faith in the unseen God, walking in a way that I do not see or understand.
This little video was taken when I could not see the plane or glider on the phone screen. I could only turn my camera in their direction and hope that I was getting the picture. When I viewed the video, there it was. I did not have to see it in order to capture it. I just had to turn in that direction and trust that it would be there.
When we are facing a problem, but don't see the reason or the answer, it is OK, because we can keep moving toward God. He is there, even when we don't see Him.

God doesn't take us straight from Egypt to the Promised Land, because we need to be prepared and trained. Some never make it.
Jesus is not the X (unknowable one), Jesus is not the X (the former one). Jesus is represented by the Greek letter X (Chi) and sometimes joined with the Greek letter P (Rho), representing the first two letters in Christ's name, Χριστός.
Christ is the presence of God in us, Who lifts us above the worldly, the earthly, the temporal, the carnal, the transient.
Jesus Christ is the One who gives us that spiritual dimension, that super power, that supernatural reality, that miraculous quality, that Divine likeness, which is beyond ourselves and beyond our best human potential.
As much as some people rise above other people with their talents or abilities, because of an "x factor," so much more is a believer in Christ raised to an unattainable level of spiritual success, not because of personal endeavor, but because of Divine encounter with Jesus Christ and Divine indwelling by the Holy Spirit.
We all need to live life on the highest plane, we all need to be raised to a new level of holiness, we all need the CHI (X)" "CHRIST" in our lives.

I am fully persuaded (Biblically) that each of those babies was covered by the atonement. Wow, what Good News, not only are the victims covered, the victimizers are invited to be forgiven and regenerated. So sad when people choose not to accept the offer of God's grace.

While we took our stand against baby killing, State taking steps to overthrow family and church, some disgruntled people called me an, "ISSUES PREACHER" (whatever that is suppose to mean). I was preaching salvation from sin, holiness of heart and life, Kingship of Jesus, standing fast in the face of the enemy, resisting baby killing, child abuse, sexual perversion being promoted by the State. Although I deny being a so-called ISSUES PREACHER, maybe we needed more who would stand for truth instead of running for cover and blaspheming those who followed Jesus.

Time for Christians to get REALLY SERIOUS.
EXPLANATION
1- WWJD means, What Would Jesus Do. This became a popular saying in our society years after it was popularized by Sheldon in his book, In His Steps. However, the origin of the idea actually came from the Bible.
1 Peter 2:20-24
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Sadly, some people want to guide their lives by a set or rules, regulations, guidelines, and WWJD can be substituted by some people, in the place of Spirit filled living. Regardless of the fact that some people have abused the principle and twisted the meaning, we, as Christians, are still admonished by God through His word in 1 Peter to walk as Jesus walked.
2- I capitalized ISSUES as an inside joke. Some people cut ties with me years ago falsely accused me of being an ISSUES PREACHER (as if I had left the message of the Bible for a political endeavor. Of course, I have the documentation, the audio and video evidence, and human witnesses, which prove that my message has always been JESUS. However, it is true that those who preach JESUS do preach in favor of some ISSUES (the Lordship of Christ, complete faith in Christ, total commitment to Biblical salvation, unreserved submission to Christ as the Only Head of the Church, the Divine inspiration and ultimate authority of the Holy Bible, holiness of heart and life, faith in Jesus); as well as preaching against some ISSUES (murdering babies, sexual misconduct, false religions such as Humanism and Liberalism, sexual perversion, dethroning God as Creator and Savior).
When people claim the "moral high ground" and the "super spiritual" position that claims to focus on God, but fails to recognize love, obedience, sacrifice, steadfastness, then they are excusing their failure to follow Christ by calling Discipleship as "Issues."
3- REALLY SERIOUS QUESTIONS are the questions that pit the teachings of the Bible against popular, well accepted beliefs stemming from Roman Catholicism, Reformed Theology, Western Theology, Modernism, Americanized Christianity. These questions will address the Christian's relationship and submission to the State, the question of being a New Testament Peace Maker, the question of suffering at the hands of society because of the beliefs we hold and the practices we follow.
IF serious questions are not asked and answered according to the Bible, it will not be long before those who see themselves as Christians will be persecuting and even executing Bible believing, Christ following people.

This meant we put it all on the line for Jesus and counted the children to be worth more than anything the world had to offer. The world and the devil have not converted and I haven't changed course. I have not had to recant my position or repent of my decisions. I am not ashamed of my choices and I would not exchange God's leading for all this world has to offer, or the peace that the world gives or the joy that the world gives, or the dignity that the world gives, or the popularity that the world gives, or the success that the world gives. I am just sorry that others either did not see it to begin with or they lost sight of it after they did see it.

In this article, from several years ago, I expressed my view of the CHURCH throughout my ministry. As we have passed through Philadelphia and as we are crossing into Laodicea, the reality of these truths becomes even more vital to personal salvation.
THE CHURCH IS GOD'S PLAN TO REACH THE WORLD.
THERE IS NO CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT THE CHURCH.
A. THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THE CHURCH
THE CHURCH is the most powerful, important wonderful body of people in the world. The Church is only mentioned two times in the four Gospels of the New Testament. Jesus said He would build His Church on the fact that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and the said that when there is dissension between followers of Christ, they should eventually bring the problem to the Church. But notice, when He said that He would build His Church, He said, “...the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The Church is magnificent because it is His Church and it is built upon Christ and it is will prevail against the gates (the power, wisdom, resources) of hell.
B. THE MYSTERY OF THE CHURCH
THE CHURCH was God's idea from before the foundation of the world, though it was not known for four thousand years.
Basically, the Church is a BODY people who have a saving faith in Jesus Christ and follow the teachings of the Holy Bible. The body is universal, regional and local. In the Old Testament the people of God were distinguished by being part of the Jewish faith, practicing Jewish religious ritual, but God had always planned to include people of all racial backgrounds in a saving relationship with Himself. This plan is called The Church. The Church is not obligated to observe Jewish laws of sacrifice, diet or ceremony. The Church is comprised of people who trust in the sacrificial death and physical resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ, as the only acceptable way to find God's approval. However, this plan did not become evident until after Jesus Christ came into the world.
(I emphasize portions in this comment by using all caps, since I cannot bold face).
Ephesians 3:3-9
(3) HOW THAT BY REVELATION HE MADE KNOWN UNTO ME THE MYSTERY; (as I wrote afore in few words,
(4) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
(5) WHICH IN OTHER AGES WAS NOT MADE KNOWN UNTO THE SONS OF MEN, AS IT IS NOW REVEALED UNTO HIS HOLY APOSTLES AND PROPHETS BY THE SPIRIT;
(6) THAT THE GENTILES SHOULD BE FELLOW HEIRS, AND OF THE SAME BODY, AND PARTAKERS OF HIS PROMISE IN CHRIST BY THE GOSPEL:

(8) Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
(9) AND TO MAKE ALL MEN SEE WHAT IS THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE MYSTERY, WHICH FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD HATH BEEN HID IN GOD, WHO CREATED ALL THINGS BY JESUS CHRIST:
THE CHURCH was a MYSTERY (a secret) in the Old Testament, revealed to Paul in the New Testament. A Biblical Mystery is a secret that can only be discovered, understood, when God explains it or reveals it. The Church has been God's plan from the beginning, but was kept hidden from the human history until the coming of Christ and the teaching of Paul the apostle.
C. THE MASTER OF THE CHURCH
Remember, when Peter identified Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Jesus said,
Matthew 16:17-18
(17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
1. THE CHURCH belongs to Jesus
The Bible says Jesus is the Head of the Church.
Ephesians 1:22-23
(22) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
(23) Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
Ephesians 5:23
(23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.
Colossians 1:18-19
(18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
(19) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;
2. Jesus Died for THE CHURCH
Ephesians 5:23

(25) Husbands, love your wives, even as CHRIST ALSO LOVED THE CHURCH, AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR IT;
(26) THAT HE MIGHT SANCTIFY AND CLEANSE IT with the washing of water by the word,
(27) THAT HE MIGHT PRESENT IT TO HIMSELF A GLORIOUS CHURCH, NOT HAVING SPOT, OR WRINKLE, OR ANY SUCH THING; BUT THAT IT SHOULD BE HOLY AND WITHOUT BLEMISH.
Jesus is the only Head of THE CHURCH, on earth and in heaven. In fact, the Biblical models of the Church recognize the Authority of Jesus over the Church.
D. THE MODELS OF THE CHURCH
1. THE CHURCH is the BODY OF CHRIST
Ephesians 5:23
(23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH: AND HE IS THE SAVIOR OF THE BODY.
1 Corinthians 12:27
(27) NOW YE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST, and members in particular.
Ephesians 4:12
(12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, FOR THE EDIFYING OF THE BODY OF CHRIST:

(24) Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the AFFLICTIONS OF CHRIST IN MY FLESH FOR HIS BODY'S SAKE, WHICH IS THE CHURCH:
2. THE CHURCH is the BRIDE OF CHRIST

4. THE CHURCH is the ARMY, THE SOLDIERS OF CHRIST

5. THE CHURCH is the HOUSEHOLD, FAMILY OF CHRIST

E. THE MINISTRIES AND MINSTERS OF THE CHURCH
1. The GIFTS of the Spirit are given to and for THE CHURCH
1 Corinthians 12:27-31
(27) Now ye are THE BODY OF CHRIST, and members in particular.
(28) And GOD HATH SET SOME IN THE CHURCH, first APOSTLES, secondarily PROPHETS, thirdly TEACHERS, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
(29) Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
(30) Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
(31) But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.

Ephesians 4:11-12
(11) AND HE GAVE SOME, APOSTLES; AND SOME, PROPHETS; AND SOME, EVANGELISTS; AND SOME, PASTORS AND TEACHERS;

2. THE CHURCH sent the APOSTLES TO PLANT CHURCHES
(The apostles not only made converts, they established fellowships, churches, and appointed elders for those churches).

(1) Now there were IN THE CHURCH THAT WAS AT ANTIOCH CERTAIN PROPHETS AND TEACHERS; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
(2) As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, THE HOLY GHOST SAID, SEPARATE ME BARNABAS AND SAUL FOR THE WORK WHEREUNTO I HAVE CALLED THEM.
(3) AND WHEN THEY HAD FASTED AND PRAYED, AND LAID THEIR HANDS ON THEM, THEY SENT THEM AWAY.
Those converted to Christ became THE CHURCH
Acts 2:47
(47) Praising God, and having favor with all the people. AND THE LORD ADDED TO THE CHURCH DAILY SUCH AS SHOULD BE SAVED.
3. The Origin of THE CHURCH at Antioch
Acts 11:19-26
(19) Now THEY WHICH WERE SCATTERED ABROAD upon the persecution that arose about Stephen TRAVELED as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, PREACHING THE WORD to none but unto the Jews only.
(20) AND SOME OF THEM were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, WHEN THEY WERE COME TO ANTIOCH, spake unto the Grecians, PREACHING THE LORD JESUS.
(21) And the hand of the Lord was with them: and A GREAT NUMBER BELIEVED, AND TURNED UNTO THE LORD.

1. CHURCH EPISTLES...
God gave His instructions and revelation to specific CHURCHES.
Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians.
2. CHURCH PASTORS...
God gave His instructions and revelation to Pastors of local CHURCHES.
Timothy and Titus.
3. SCATTERED CHURCHES...
God gave His instructions and revelation to the CHURCH in various regions or scattered abroad.
Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter.
4. HOUSE CHURCHES...
God gave His instructions and revelation to CHURCHES meeting in homes.
1 and 2 and 3 John.
5. SEVEN CHURCHES...
The Book of Revelation was sent to seven specific LOCAL CHURCHES.

On one of the FB fishing groups I joined a person posted God's name in a curse. By the time I saw it (12 hours after it was posted), someone had already expressed their unhappiness, because children might see it. The offender apologized and said he would not do it again.
Still, he did not edit or delete the profane post. I looked for a way to notify the admin but I had difficulty making contact. I decided to HIDE the post. I also said something to the offender. I was nice, but clear concerning my disappointment.
After hiding it I could not see new comments, which was fine. Then I started getting notifications. People were responding to my comment. I checked it out and it was not pleasant or civil. That was fine too. I simply left the group. I don't mind an argument or confrontation, but some things are not worth the trouble. I have had enough of those times that I know what to expect.
Here is my point. They were better off with me in the group. I did not go in there preaching or correcting folks, until they used God's name. Even then I did not abuse anyone.
I say they were better off with me as a member because it is always to societies advantage to have God represented. Once God is edged out, there is no hope for that segment of society, including governments. Also it is sometimes to the believer's advantage to leave a situation. Yes, we are salt and light, but we are sent to do God's bidding, not our own.
On one of the FB fishing groups I joined a person posted God's name in a curse. By the time I saw it (12 hours after it was posted), someone had already expressed their unhappiness, because children might see it. The offender apologized and said he would not do it again.
Still, he did not edit or delete the profane post. I looked for a way to notify the admin but I had difficulty making contact. I decided to HIDE the post. I also said something to the offender. I was nice, but clear concerning my disappointment.
After hiding it I could not see new comments, which was fine. Then I started getting notifications. People were responding to my comment. I checked it out and it was not pleasant or civil. That was fine too. I simply left the group. I don't mind an argument or confrontation, but some things are not worth the trouble. I have had enough of those times that I know what to expect.
Here is my point. They were better off with me in the group. I did not go in there preaching or correcting folks, until they used God's name. Even then I did not abuse anyone.
I say they were better off with me as a member because it is always to societies advantage to have God represented. EXPLANATION
I want to come back to this passage later, but let me say right up front that this passage does not close the door on present day sinners, it does not disqualify unbelievers from the call and salvation of God. On the other hand, it is a very sobering warning shot over the bow of enemy vessels and a clear indictment of those who refuse to have a living and loving relationship with Christ.
As I said, I am looking at this passage and hope to address it specifically. In the mean time, since this passage deals with love, I am going to mention some of my articles dealing with Biblical love. These articles, give the linguistic and Biblical background to the word LOVE. This is not only helpful for this question, but it might be helpful in other areas as well.

It is true that Christians do not have a monopoly on love, but it takes a living and loving relationship with Christ in order to experience the deepest kind of love, which in New Testament Greek is called "agape." This is the self denying, self sacrificing, pure love that God had for sinners when Jesus died on the cross. This is also called perfect love and is the love that flows from God, through His children, when there hearts are pure and delivered from all sin through entire sanctification.
PHILEO (fil a oh), a Biblical word.
Another spiritual love, yet separate from "agape love" is, "phileo" or brotherly love. It is the love that exists between very good friends. It is the kind of love that is generally associated with Christians. Those who are justified by faith experience this love for other people.This love is not to be confused with mere emotional or sensual/physical love.
STORGE, a word associated with a Biblical word (Ro. 12:10), which is translated as "being kindly affectioned.".
The most common kind of love that people relate to is "storge" or family love, love of a parent for a child (or between lovers and friends). Though this love is a good thing and is the product of "common grace" (grace extended to non-believers) it is not exclusively Christian. This is why we can say, "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime." But there is another "love" that is common to all men.
EROS "Eros" love is a human love that may be described as "erotic" but it is also "erratic" in the sense that it is a love based on changing emotions, and may ignite into something that is not lovely. It is a love that rises from the natural man, rather than the spiritual man. Eros can be manifested through either intimacy or lust. It does not take a work of God's grace to experience "eros," but it does take a work of God's grace to bring the emotions, desires and drives under self control.
Everyone experiences love, but not everyone enters into the higher, deeper, more godly kinds of love. Trusting Christ, turning from sin and following Christ fully connects us to the Fountainhead of love Himself.
Search Me O God
Allow God to examine your heart, search your inner man. Take a look at your "love" life (love of others, love of God). Hopefully you have more than just an emotional love (eros) and more than just a family/friendship love (storge). Hopefully you have surrendered your life to Christ and have become a channel of (phileo), brotherly love. God wants us to love Him with our whole heart, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, which is (agape).
Loving in the way God wants us to love takes the miracle of God's presence and infilling.
Psalms 139:23-24
(23) Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

I will give a quick overview of our worship service, concerning Brotherly Love, and then I will tell you some of the points I shared with the congregation. The service includes the children. You really should have been their, it was AWESOME.
THE MEETING
I shared the meaning of, and the need for BROTHERLY LOVE to the entire congregation, from the youngest (3 years) to the oldest (68 years).
I encourage questions, observations, comments, responses from anyone, including the little children.
They sat in preaching/teaching service for over an hour and a half, focused on and participating in the celebration of the word of God.
They think with their minds and listen with their hearts.
They search their souls and surrender their lives to Christ.
They sit together in heavenly places.
They are not forced, they are involved and responsive and receptive.
THE MESSAGE
BROTHERLY LOVE. I have watched through the years, as brothers and sisters and cousins and other family members grew less affectionate and more abusive and non-communicative with one another. These things ought not to be.
* Brotherly Love is love for family.
* Brotherly Love is more than just desire, and more than love of nature.
* Brotherly Love is an affection for that which is familial, extending to immediate family, racial, cultural and regional relationships and love for leadership (such as a king).
There are various kinds of love, as seen in the Greek language.
"Eros," having to do with natural, sensual love.
"Phileo," having to do with familial affection love, referred to as brotherly love.
"Agape'," having to do with Godlike, self sacrificing, pure love.
Love comes from God.
* God is love.
* For God so loved the world.
* By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, because you have love for one another.
* And the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, Who is given to us.
* These three continue, faith, hope and love, but the greatest is love.

But unlike most "church" people today, the early Church believers communed with God and He spoke to them in their hearts. He does the same today with anyone who will obediently listen. His REVELATION is given by the prophets and apostles in the writings of the Old and New Testament, and nothing can be added to them, but He communes with the trusting and loving heart of believers and ENLIGHTENS us to His will.
* God tells those who listen to Him, to love one another. This love is not in word only, but in deed.
* As a parent teaches the child the basics of life, God teaches His children to love one another.

22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
I approached this passage in these steps.
1. I read the passage through, in context.
2. I considered the overall message of 1 Corinthians.
3. I focused on the word love.
4. I looked at various commentaries, word studies, translations.
This is a very sobering passage. It can easily be misunderstood to say that anyone who does not presently love Christ is now and eternally lost. That is not what it necessarily means in this passage (however, if the circumstances continue exist as they are at present, then it is an eternal judgment).
Paul cannot be saying that any person who has not loved Christ in the past or does not love Christ in the present is unredeemable because Paul himself had been one who did not love Christ. Paul preached to people who did not love Christ, in order for them to get saved, and therefore come to love Christ. Paul also talked about men who had turned from their love of Christ headed for the judgement of God.
Paul had written this letter addressing the ways in which men manifested their lack of love for Christ and each other, then he called them to faith and love. Here, at the end of this letter Paul makes it clear that those who continue to live their lives, aside from loving Christ, would face the judgment of God.
This passage is similar to an ancient Jewish curse on anyone who refused to live their lives in subjection to the God of Israel: AND MAY THE GOD OF ISRAEL JUDGE YOU (CURSE YOU). This same kind of curse is uttered in the Mideast by other religious people today. This curse indicates that the sin of the person is so great that judgment and punishment in this present, passing world would not be adequate for the unspeakable rebellion of the cursed one. This was Paul's point of view concerning those who will not repent.
Paul is closing his letter of correction and confrontation to the Corinthians by warning them that anyone who would continue to live in rejection of God's will and in opposition to God's people would be judged worthy of eternal, Divine judgment. This warning was not the shutting of the door of salvation. However, as long as anyone chose to remain in rebellion, then the sword of judgment already hung over the head of that person.
Jesus had made similar statements, without closing the door to repentance. It is only when people refuse to repent that they are shut out of salvation.

If a person does not have a fondness for the person of Jesus, if a person does not have a sense of kinship, brotherhood with Jesus, then that person is not in a right relationship with Jesus and they are cut off from His saving grace.

* Brotherly love is so fundamental, so basic to the Christian experience that Paul did not feel it necessary to instruct believers in the practice of brotherly love.
* Though New Testament believers did not have the physical or spiritual presence of God in their midst, as did Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, they did have a personal and spiritual relationship with God that was intimate and dynamic. * God spoke to believers by way of His Holy Spirit, as He does today. 1 Corinthians 16:22
22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
I approached this passage in these steps.
1. I read the passage through, in context.
2. I considered the overall message of 1 Corinthians.
3. I focused on the word love.
4. I looked at various commentaries, word studies, translations.
This is a very sobering passage. It can easily be misunderstood to say that anyone who does not presently love Christ is now and eternally lost. That is not what it necessarily means in this passage (however, if the circumstances continue exist as they are at present, then it is an eternal judgment).
Paul cannot be saying that any person who has not loved Christ in the past or does not love Christ in the present is unredeemable because Paul himself had been one who did not love Christ. Paul preached to people who did not love Christ, in order for them to get saved, and therefore come to love Christ. Paul also talked about men who had turned from their love of Christ headed for the judgement of God.
Paul had written this letter addressing the ways in which men manifested their lack of love for Christ and each other, then he called them to faith and love. Here, at the end of this letter Paul makes it clear that those who continue to live their lives, aside from loving Christ, would face the judgment of God.
This passage is similar to an ancient Jewish curse on anyone who refused to live their lives in subjection to the God of Israel: AND MAY THE GOD OF ISRAEL JUDGE YOU (CURSE YOU). This same kind of curse is uttered in the Mideast by other religious people today. This curse indicates that the sin of the person is so great that judgment and punishment in this present, passing world would not be adequate for the unspeakable rebellion of the cursed one. This was Paul's point of view concerning those who will not repent.
Paul is closing his letter of correction and confrontation to the Corinthians by warning them that anyone who would continue to live in rejection of God's will and in opposition to God's people would be judged worthy of eternal, Divine judgment. This warning was not the shutting of the door of salvation. However, as long as anyone chose to remain in rebellion, then the sword of judgment already hung over the head of that person.
Jesus had made similar statements, without closing the door to repentance. It is only when people refuse to repent that they are shut out of salvation.

Without going into the tenses, it is safe to say that our present condition indicates our future condition. It is better to be ready now, than to think we will get ready later.
Finally, notice that the word love, used in vs 22 is the Greek word, PHILEO, which means Brotherly Love. Though agape love is the deepest and strongest and most sacrificial love, PHILEO is the brotherly, kindred, family, relational love that draws close to another person because of great fondness. If a person does not have a fondness for the person of Jesus, if a person does not have a sense of kinship, brotherhood with Jesus, then that person is not in a right relationship with Jesus and they are cut off from His saving grace.
LOVING CHRIST IS THE PROOF OF OUR FAITH. OBEYING CHRIST IS THE PROOF OF OUR LOVE.
