01/30/19 PLEASE READ (the Bowels, Reins, Heart)
The "heart" (inner man) we refer to was actually BOWELS in the OT, including stomach & guts. To lack heart is to lack the guts.

The words, BOWELS and REINS in the Old Testament were the terms given to the intestines, stomach, womb (or in male, the area of generation), kidneys or essential organs and figuratively referred to the inner person, the mind, the emotion, the courage, the determination, or as we say today, THE HEART.
I have been so emotionally disturbed by some things in life that my stomach would go sour, get weak, be sick. The bowels represent our deepest feelings, relationships, commitments.
The "heart" conveys a warm, cuddly, romantic idea.
God is not calling us to a schoolboy crush.
God is calling us to a burning desire to please the Lover of our Soul.
God is calling us to an eternal commitment.
God is calling us to self denial and self sacrifice.
