10/29/19 THE ANCHOR CHURCH...

Got an angry call in the 80s saying,
"You call your bar a church."
There was an "Anchor Bar" in Buffalo NY, home of Buffalo Wings.

WOW.
We had a huge sign on our storefront church in Morehead that said, "ANCHOR CHURCH." I took the name from Hebrews 6:18.

I believe it was a Marine, driving on Arendell Street, who saw our sign and called my number. I was shocked (since I had never heard of, Anchor Bar) and explained that we actually were a church and not a bar, and I told him the Biblical reason for our name.

Today i saw a post referencing the historic Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY, which is the Home of Buffalo Wings. I wonder if that is why the Marine thought we were a bar? Maybe he knew about the bar in NY.

A few years after the phone call, i saw an Anchor Bar in Greensboro. There is actually a franchise with this name.

I always liked the name, ANCHOR CHURCH. But since then i have pastored in Texas, Tennessee and South Carolina. Now i have THE NET HOUSE MINISTRY CENTER in Beaufort. Ya'll come.
