Where there is no vision, (knowledge, understanding), the people perish (wander, grope, famish).

Sad when leadership loses vision and depends on younger generation to restore it.
1 Samuel 3:1-4
1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

There is no Divine vision among the lawless.
Proverbs 29:18
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

The fault of failure is more in the religious leaders than the political leaders and the destruction ultimately comes from God (read vss1-9).
Lamentations 2:9
9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

The keeping of the law does not save us, but the breaking of the law condemns us.
Hosea 4:6
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The word must be preached, published, proclaimed. The word is food and water to the hungry soul.
Amos 8:11-12
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
