03/16/19 MAN'S NATURE
 
Man is a psycho-physical totality (body & spirit; physical & non-physical).
Biblically we're Body, Soul & Spirit (trichotomous).

God created us as body, soul and spirit.
Genesis 2:7
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Paul referred to these three parts of man.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The human BODY is the OTHER consciousness (awareness of whatever is outside of self), through the five senses, Seeing, Hearing, Smelling, Feeling, Tasting.

The human SOUL is the SELF consciousness (aware of self), through Reason, Desire, Conscience, Emotion, Will.

The human SPIRIT is the GOD consciousness.

Man was created to be a corporeal and a non-corporeal being.
Human perfection was lost when Adam corrupted the human race with sin (Adam's fall). All of man's being was effected by the "fall."
Death separates the physical from the non physical.
We were not designed or intended to be disembodied spirits.
In the resurrection, bodies and spirits will be reunited, to either live with God eternally, or to be separated from God eternally.
Because of sin, all three parts of a person are out of touch, communication with their Divine design. Humans suffer physical/social problems, mind/moral problems, as well as relational problems with God.
Jesus became a man (without sin) in order to bring lost humanity back to God (through His death and resurrection).
