01/15/19 ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN TO WIN SOME
I have been working on an FB Group this morning. It is a fun Group and something I started because of my grandchildren.
I have tried to have a well rounded life with my family and friends through the years. I am just me, which ain't much, but what there is of me is pretty simple and straight forward. I don't really have a big part of my life set off for religious or spiritual things, instead, all of me is surrendered to Jesus. I want Jesus to be Lord in my teaching, preaching, marriage, parenting, grand-parenting, friendships, social attachments, fun time, fishing, joking, playing. Being Christian is not part time. It is all the time. I not only try to be a good witness for Jesus, to the people I know and meet, I try to help others become the best follower and witness they can be also.
Not everyone will be interested in my new Group, and that is okay. It is not essential that we all think alike about the passing things of life. I have not been put into this world to be someone's policeman. I see people who try to be the food police, the entertainment police, the social police, the grammar police, the sports police, the music police the hair police, the hem police.
Yes, there are some aspects of the various areas of life that should be rejected, because those aspects are either sinful or they are a hindrance to Christian living. But too often the self righteous are so busy trying to run other people's lives that their own lives are running awry.
Sometimes people are imposing cultural norms on other people, because those cultural norms (from the past) have been considered the Biblical and Christian norm, by a particular segment of society or segment of the Church.
It takes time to reach out to people in the various arenas of life, and sometimes it does not result in a spiritual return. But still, we must do the right thing in the right way at the right time, when we are able to do it. It takes time, energy and sacrifice, and it is not easy, but we only get one shot at it.
Sometimes we have to say, "NO," when we would like to say, "yes." It takes wisdom and sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We can't please everyone, but we should endeavor to please God. Sometimes the people who will not understand are worldly and sometimes the people who will not understand may see themselves as very spiritual. Being sensitive to God, His word is the first concern we have.
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
